2009 STA Scholarship Award
The STA is please to announce its competition for the 2009 STA Scholarship Award.
Since 1927, The Society of Typographic Arts has been and continues to be a vital participant in the Chicago design community by sponsoring seminars and conferences, developing publications, presenting diverse events and supporting design education.
The annual STA Scholarship Award is presented to promising design students who demonstrate a significant understanding of the principles of design and visual communication.
Chicago Design Community Mourns the Passing of Bruce Beck
Bruce Beck, 92, a long time resident of Evanston, and owner of Bruce Beck Design for over 50 years, passed away July 21, 2009. Born in Harvard, IL and former resident of Lake Forest, he was much loved by his family and friends, including his wife of 62 years, Margaret Beck (nee Breen); his son Steven Beck of Penngrove, California and daughter Barbara (Dennis Marino) Beck of Evanston; and his granddaughters Kate and Nora Marino.
Typeface—The Movie
Before Helvetica–decades before–craftsmen cut type using techniques that survive at the Hamilton Wood Type Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Typeface, the movie, looks at the life and times of Hamilton where a resurgent analog craft is inspiring artists in a digital age.
Kartemquin’s latest documentary in progress, Typeface explores the lineage and preservation of one of America’s oldest graphic design traditions.
A Celebration for Nancy Lundberg Pinzke
A celebration for Nancy is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, at 1 p.m. in Chicago.
Nancy Lundberg Pinzke, died March 24, in Chicago, after a courageous 2 year battle with ovarian cancer.
She married Herbert Pinzke in 1980 and they ran Pinzke Design, a graphic-arts company, for many years in Chicago.
