Muriel Underwood's Miniature Books
STA fellow and proprietor of Miscellaneous Graphics, Muriel Underwood is a former board member and officer of our organization, as well as co-founder, protector and enthusiastic user of the STA Type Workshop.
Over the years, Muriel has expressed her love of typography, letterpress and hand crafted books by producing a number of miniature volumes, printed on the Type Workshop's press, (which now resides at Columbia College's Center for Book and Paper Arts), and carefully hand bound by herself.
Besides writing and editing a local newsletter for and about women who have served or are serving in the Marine Corps, (yes Muriel served in Marine Corps during WW II), she continues to enjoy printing on the equipment at Columbia College, and shares her knowledge and passion with others interested in the traditional craft of handmade books.
The following gallery includes Muriel's descriptions of the sample covers and spreads from these delightful little books. A few copies are available at $25 each.
Please contact Muriel directly at miscgraphics@aol.com if you're interested in purchasing one of her minature books.

From November 7-19, 2008, the work of STA past president and Fellow, Jack Weiss was featured in an exhibition, South India: Photographs, at the Frame Warehouse in Evanston.
Jack traveled with his family to Tamal Nadu and Kerala in Southern India in 2002 and 2008. Photographs in the exhibition were taken during the 2008 visit. Many reflect the influence of Walker Evans’ storefront photographs that contain images of signs, products, and people.
Others capture the beauty of the countryside, tea plantations, and village markets. The following gallery is a small selection of some of the photographs in the exhibition.
